Liaison Interpreting

This interpreting technique is often used during negotiations. Two or more discussion partners conduct a conversation with the help of an interpreter. The words of those speaking are interpreted either after the person has spoken for a short time, or sentence by sentence, or as chuchotage (whispered interpreting - see below); apart from note taking, no equipment is used.

The advantage of liaison interpreting lies in its formal setting: the participants can listen to each version of what is said, enabling them to ask questions spontaneously and add a further contribution there and then.
